Gov2U

Gov2u was founded in 2005 with the intention of harnessing the potential of ICTs as vital tools for the improvement of representative democracy. The main crux of Gov2u's activities is the research, development and deployment of open source enabling technologies to facilitate legislative information gathering and dissemination. In parallel, they are involved in the targeted dissemination of knowledge and best practice through the organization of, and participation in, conferences, meetings, seminars and publications.

Gov2u has developed the acclaimed open source, informative and collaborative e-participation platform Gov2DemOSS (http://www.gov2u.org). The most advanced platform of its kind, Gov2DemOSS provides an efficient channel for institutions and organizations to keep their communities informed, manage their information repositories, interact directly with their constituents and to gauge public opinion. The open source nature of the software means that it is provided free of charge to interested parties, with Gov2u covering the planning process, customization and deployment of the software, training of site administrators and users, support and maintenance.

Though the platform was initially envisioned as a tool for various levels of government, it has been increasingly attracting interest from a wider range of stakeholders including civil society organizations, political campaigns and large corporations who are seeking an efficient medium for interacting with their membership base. Currently Gov2u has projects running in the US and a large project at the final approval stage in Spain where 31 municipalities have sought to acquire the Gov2DemOSS platform.

In the short time since the founding of Gov2u, the organization has received wide international recognition including being short-listed by the World eGov Forum and PoliticsOnline in the Top 20 Who Are Changing the World of Internet and Politics as well as receiving the EU Good Practice Label 2006 for the Gov2DemOSS platform.

Gov2u participates as a technological partner, in the e-Representative project".
