Scytl

Scytl is a software company specialising in application-level cryptography and a worldwide leader in the development of secure and mutichannel e-voting/e-participation solutions. Scytl was formed in 2001 as a spin-off from a leading research group at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona that has pioneered the research of security solutions for the electronic voting industry since 1994. This group accounts for over 20 scientific papers published in international journals and the first two European PhD theses on e-voting security. Additionally, this group participated in the first Internet binding election in Europe in 1997.

Scytl's e-voting/e-participation solutions derive from over ten years of research and development experience and are protected by international patents. Scytl's R&D efforts have focused on developing application-level cryptographic solutions to provide electronic voting with the same levels of security, trust and privacy as conventional paper-based electoral systems. Scytl's innovative technology has received numerous international awards, including the 2005 IST Prize granted by the European Commission.

Scytl's secure e-voting/e-participation solutions have been integrated into numerous e-voting platforms in Europe, including the Internet-voting platform of the Swiss Canton of Neuchßtel, one of the only two permanent Internet-voting platforms for binding elections and consultations in the world. Scytl's technology was also recently used in Madrid to carry out one of the largest e-participation experiences in Europe. Furthermore, Scytl will provide poll-site electronic voting terminals in the State of Victoria (Australia) for the November 2006 parliamentary elections. The electronic voting terminals are based on PCs with Scytl's software to provide these terminals with the highest levels of security and with accessibility for the blind and visually impaired.
